Jeff Healey Passes Away

Postby neil sharpe » Mon Mar 03, 2008 5:29 am

I'm very sorry to have to announce that guitar great Jeff Healey unexpectedly has passed away of cancer at the age of 41. ... nment/home

Before his first record release, I was lucky enough to see him on a Saturday night at a local golf club bar. It was simply amazing. Right from the first song, I was completely overwhelmed by a seemingly never-ending, incredible avalanche of notes, all played in his innovative style with perfect phrasing and rhythm. Some of the guys standing next to me played in some of Buffalo's better blues and jazz bands, and we all just stood there looking at each other, stunned. I hadn't heard anything like it since Hendirx. An enormous loss to the world of music.

I know I mentioned this over at BluesTalk, but this week there has been some airplay of Healey's newest album "Mess of Blues" on Sirius Blues. It's due out on the 22nd of April. 'Sittin' On Top Of The World' has been the single played so far. Good stuff, man. Gonna git me one o' dem fo my own sef.
