another trick ive been working on in the same context is what i hear in ALbert king and SRV solos. they play the 5th of the chords theyre on .

so for a V change in A they play B blues over the E chord. it gives that sour sound that you so much hear in their solos.

ive been also experimenting playing 3 frets back over all the chords in the song. so for a I IV V in A i play F# A B pents over the chords. this is extremly extremly confusing at first but can land you some nice depth so long as you dont over use it.

there so much you can do with a simple 5 note scale thats its mind boggling. if you think about it technically you can really play any freaking note on the neck if you use it over the right chords
